Frank Earl Carr was a 20th-century American composer and music educator known for his contributions to choral music. Born on July 13, 1928 in Dexter, Maine, Carr studied music at the University of Southern California and later received his Master's degree from Columbia University.
Carr served as the Director of Choral Activities at the University of Arizona School of Music from 1967 to 1995 where he conducted the University of Arizona Chamber Singers and taught courses in choral conducting and music education.
He composed numerous choral works, many of which are published by leading music publishers such as G. Schirmer and Lawson-Gould. Some of his notable compositions include "The Ballad of William Sycamore," "Cantata Gloria," and "And Sunrise Will Come."
In addition to his work as a composer and educator, Carr was also an active conductor, clinician, and advocate for choral music. He passed away on February 25, 2015 in Tucson, Arizona, leaving behind a legacy of impactful and inspiring music.
